How to Be Selfless Without Sacrificing Yourself

If you want to be more giving in your relationship and in life, follow these five tips to be a giver without giving too much.

1. Give from Security, Not Insecurity

Give from a place of security and self-worth. You don’t need to earn love or prove your value to others.

2. Give to Yourself

Self-care is essential. Check in with yourself and ensure you get rest, relaxation, and time for hobbies. Self-care is necessary and valid, even if it doesn't directly benefit others.

3. Set Boundaries

Offer what you can and maintain your boundaries. It's okay not to give everything to everyone. Say yes to what you can and want to do, and say no to the rest.

4. Be a Receiver Too

Being a giver doesn’t mean you can't accept help. Allow yourself to ask for and accept support from others without guilt. Needing others is natural.

5. Don’t Have a Relationship with a Taker

Avoid relationships with takers. Choose to give to the right people who contribute to healthy relationships. A balanced relationship with a giver or matcher is supportive, but a relationship with a taker is often painful.
